Tombs-Day Special: The ABCs of Cemeteries - Part 2

D for Dog
Dogs are wonderful creatures that truly leave a mark on the lives of their owners. So much so, in fact, that many have their dogs remembered alongside them in memory. There are many examples of this, including statues (both big and small), photos, inscriptions and many more. The person whose burial plot is shown above must have had a special place in their heart for dogs as the two statues shown above were definitely a stand out piece in this cemetery - standing at just over 2 feet tall each!

E for Epitaph
Epitaphs are inscriptions on headstones or other grave markers that commemorate the life of the person. It is not considered the standard information such as name, birthdate, date of passing, etc. but rather a small (or even sometimes large!) line, verse or sentence that may describe or represent the individual. This can range from a short and simple 'Rest In Peace' to something longer and perhaps more personal, as shown in the photo above (can be seen at bottom of headstone).

F for Flowers
Flowers, both real and artificial, are commonplace at cemeteries. Some plant small gardens in front of or around the headstone plot, with many that have beautiful flowers that return to bloom in the spring. Many others have artificial flower arrangements and funerary wreaths that may sit in front of the headstone or be designed to sit atop the headstone, as seen in the photo above.
